What Does a Postpartum Doula Cost?

A postpartum doula typically costs between $30 and $60 per hour, with overnight care ranging from $35 to $75 per hour, depending on experience, location, and services provided.

At Gold Coast Doulas, we understand that navigating life with a newborn is a beautiful but challenging transition—and having the right support can make all the difference. Our postpartum doulas are professionally trained to provide expert care tailored to your family’s unique needs, from hands-on newborn care to emotional and physical recovery support for the birthing parent.

What’s Included in the Cost?

When you hire a postpartum doula, you’re not just paying for an extra set of hands—you’re investing in your recovery, your rest, and your peace of mind. Our services include:

  • Newborn care: diapering, feeding, bathing, and soothing techniques
  • Emotional support and encouragement for the family
  • Assistance with breastfeeding or bottle-feeding
  • Light daytime household tasks like baby laundry and dishes
  • Daytime support for older siblings adjusting to life with a new baby
  • Sleep education and healthy routine-building

Our postpartum support packages start at $1,000 and can be fully customized to match your family’s needs, whether you’re looking for daytime help, overnight shifts, or a mix of both.

How to Pay for a Postpartum Doula

We know this is a meaningful investment, so we offer a variety of ways to help make postpartum care more accessible:

  • HSA/FSA Accounts: Many of our clients use Health Savings or Flexible Spending Accounts to cover doula services. We provide the documentation needed for reimbursement.
  • Carrot Fertility, Maven, and Progyny Benefits Through Employer: Some employers now include doula care as part of their wellness programs. It’s worth checking with your HR department to see what might be covered. Schedule a doula to help you during birth and up to 6 weeks after baby arrives. You can use these benefits for birth doula support or day and overnight postpartum doula support, but we cannot do any tasks. You can listen to a podcast HERE about how doula benefits can help close maternal care gaps, reduce healthcare costs, and promote inclusivity as Kristin interviews Cynthia McEwen, head of DE&I and VP of People at Progyny.
  • Gift Registries: Add doula care to your baby registry! Friends and family are often eager to contribute to something so practical and helpful. Gold Coast has gift certificates available to make it easy for you to receive support.
  • Discounts: Gold Coast clients can enjoy a nice discount on doula service hours when bought in bulk in advance. For reference, an average of 500 hours are booked per client – whether they purchase upfront at a discount or add on hours later (not a discounted rate). By locking in bulk hours, you are also able to lock in your favorite personal doula.

Is It Worth It?

Absolutely. Families who work with postpartum doulas consistently tell us that the support made their transition smoother, their sleep better, and their confidence stronger. Hiring a doula means you don’t have to figure it all out on your own—and that’s priceless.
