Jessi Heins

Birth Doula

Bed Rest Doula

Postpartum & Infant Care Doula

Certified Lactation Consultant

Jessi Heins (she/her) has always had a passion for supporting people in times of transition. Before working in birth she worked as a social worker helping at risk populations find and maintain employment as well as working with families who were at risk of being separated. Jessi was also fortunate enough to be a part of an amazing coed community service fraternity where she served on the executive board for several years organizing community service projects and membership retreats.

In 2012 Jessi had her first baby. Looking back at the experience now, Jessi can see how she desired to be the perfect patient. She did everything that was suggested by the doctors without knowing that she had the ability to say no or simply to ask for time. Since the experience she took to learning all that she could about birth and postpartum and was able to have a better experience with each pregnancy and birth. It wasn’t until after her third pregnancy that Jessi realized her passion for supporting others was in the birth journey.

Jessi became a certified birth doula in 2020 and started attending births in a pandemic. She encouraged families to ask for space when they needed it and provided a listening ear as often as she could.

Since then Jessi has earned the following certifications:

  • ProDoula – Elite
    birth doula / 2021
  • ProDoula – Elite Postpartum doula / 2022
  • Healthy Children’s
    Project – Certified lactation counselor / 2021
  • Bundle birth – Physiologic birth / 2022
  • BEST certified childbirth educator / 2022
  • Certified Pregnancy and Infant Loss Advocate (PAIL) / 2023

Jessi aims to provide information from evidence based resources and to provide support in an unbiased, nonjudgemental environment while she supports families in making informed decisions that work best for them.

When Jessi isn’t at a birth or supporting a new family at home she is drinking coffee with her partner while enjoying the chaos of their four children.

Jessi is a solo birth doula with Gold Coast and is accepting limited postpartum clients.

Testimonials

Jessi was incredible! Her encouragement, positivity, knowledge, and expertise was what we need throughout our pregnancy, labor, delivery, and after! We would highly recommend again and again!
Charleen H., Birth Support
Having Jessi as our doula made my husband feel as if he could best support me emotionally and mentally so that she could help support in all the other ways. She offered encouragement, massages/counter pressure, suggested labor positions, and gave lactation support after birth.
Birth Support
We loved having Jessi be part of our birth. She was our “security blanket” to ensure that we would feel supported and empowered during the birth experience and that’s exactly what happened.
Birth Support
Jessi was/is THE best! We not only thought so but our nurses loved her too – said she was one of the best they’d ever seen! She has been checking in for weeks prior to baby time, was there the second we got to the hospital, and helped us through lots of ups and downs with labor and delivery! She was very actively present when we needed it for prigrsss while still allowing the space for it to feel like an intimate time for me and my husband. Since birth she’s been checking in regularly, answers literally any question, and always ends with a “girl you got this” given me a little extra hype. Love her!

Jessi was everything I would want in a doula and more. She was down to earth, honest, and kind. She was able to provide my husband and I the physical and mental support that was needed during my pregnancy and birth of our second child. She was able to be present in our pregnancy and birth without being over-bearing. Although, another induction of labor occurred with our second son, we were able to follow our birth plan in the hospital besides having an artificial start of labor. We were able to use our hypnobirthing skill set with guidance from Jessi. My birth was fast, enjoyable and everything I wanted. We have Jessi to thank for a lot for that.

Both Kay and Jessi were great! Jessi helped me with some breastfeeding issues I was having, and Kay gave me some great feedback on sleep. I felt comfortable with them taking care of my baby while I was sleeping and they did a wonderful job caring for him.

We had a wonderful doula for my first birth who recommended Gold Coast Doulas when we got pregnant again. I love that Gold Coast pairs the doulas into teams; it felt like I had two doulas for the price of one! Katie has training in Spinning Babies and offered so many helpful resources and great support when my baby was breech at 36 weeks, and Julie offered some great resources about breastfeeding and milk supply after the birth. Most importantly these two women are open about their faith. Having a Christian doula was very important to us, and we were happy to have Katie attend the birth and essentially worship with us though the process. I am so thankful for all the practical and emotional support we got from our doula team!

We are so appreciative of the support we received from Jessi and Gold Coast during our pregnancy. Thanks to their care, information and advice, we had very little apprehension about the final weeks of our pregnancy, labor and delivery process, and first weeks as new parents. It was wonderfully reassuring to have Jessi as our advocate and guide, and as I liked to say, our expert birth consultant.

Jessi was a godsend for overnights! Her and I talked like we were friends for years. Her advice and emotional support were invaluable. I also appreciated her answering random texts about my baby. Being a first-time mom comes with questions and sometimes a lack of support. I’m so glad I found Gold Coast Doulas.

Jessi did a great job of providing me emotional reassurance as my birth plan changed from what I anticipated. She also, encouraged and coached my husband on how to best support me throughout labor. We had a LONG labor and she stayed attentive and supportive, and continued to remind me that my little on would be here soon.

It might seem like a luxury expense but if there's ever a time for a luxury expense it is during labor and birth. I have an incredible partner but he benefitted from someone helping guide him with clear direction when he was stressed seeing me in pain. It also made me feel very secure that there was one person who no matter what was looking out for me and my birth plan and was knowledgeable to support me before, during and after with zero judgement.
