Alyssa became interested in birth after her eldest was born in 2014. She completed a doula training workshop in 2016. In 2017 she started working as a birth assistant for different home birth midwives and has a current neonatal resuscitation certification. She is a Certified Birth Doula through DONA International.
Alyssa has seen it all, between clients and her own story. She’s had an unmedicated hospital birth, D & C (dilation and curettage following two miscarriages), and a home birth. She has struggled with an unwanted pregnancy, postpartum depression, and losses.
She believes that pregnancy and birth are natural parts of life, and that women are far stronger and more capable than they know or give themselves credit for. Birth is just one part of the picture, and the best experience can be gained when pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period are all treated as equally important.
Alyssa lives in Zeeland, MI with her husband, Adam, her children Valerie and Joaquin, and her dog Daisy. When she’s not working with families, you can find her hiking or heading to the beach, traveling, or reading. She also loves the water and teaches swim lessons and coaches swimming locally.
Alyssa’s birth partner is Lisa.
