Comfort Measures for Labor

This hands-on workshop, taught by Certified Birth & Postpartum Doula Kristin Revere, focuses on comfort measures for labor and birth. You will learn about medical and non-medical pain relief options, communication, positions for labor and birthing, and breathing techniques.  This workshop will ease your mind as both first-time and seasoned parents prepare for birth.

This class does not replace a comprehensive childbirth class, and will not cover stages of labor or interventions. You will be given worksheets to take home and refer to later.

This class has virtual or in-person private options.

Admission:

in-person or virtual – $ 90 / private date of your choice – $125

Breastfeeding: Getting a Strong Start

This comprehensive virtual course is taught by Board Certified Lactation Consultant Kelly Wysocki-Emery.

Get access to the Breastfeeding: Getting A Strong Start course to watch on your own first…THEN get access to a virtual Q&A session to ask any lingering questions.  This education is a hybrid model (some learning on your own via video course and then meeting with a lactation consultant to bring it all into focus).

 What you get:

  • 3 hours of up-to-date, solution-based breastfeeding video content culled from a lactation consultant working in the field for nearly 30 years
  • Access to video content for as many babies as you have (forever)
  • Access to one free, live virtual Q&A with an IBCLC (Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultant) to answer any lingering questions

We will cover everything and still leave time for pumping/work/bottle questions. Having your partner in crime join is highly recommended, as they will be a crucial part of the teamwork needed to breastfeed.

Admission: $ 90

Newborn Survival

Learn how to survive your first several weeks home with baby! In this laid-back class, you will go over real-life scenarios so that you’re confident and prepared when your baby arrives. Your instructor Alyssa Veneklase is a Certified Postpartum Doula, Newborn Care Specialist, and Certified Infant & Child Sleep Consultant. She will answer common questions about feeding, fussiness, soothing techniques, swaddling methods, bathing, safety, sleeping, and more.

The goal of this class is for parents to know they’re fully capable of doing this, they just need to know what to expect ahead of time. You’ve got this!

This class is virtual and not offered live. A recorded version of the class will be emailed to you, along with the worksheets, that can be completed at any time. Alyssa offers a scheduled live 30-minute call to answer questions.

Admission: $ 90

The Saturday Series at Gold Coast Doulas is so worth it! If you are unsure on what classes or books to read before baby comes, start here! It really makes the feeling of "getting ready" less daunting. My husband and I felt immediately relieved after the Saturday Series because it made us feel like "we got this" and we don't need to hunt down every parenting book or read every article before baby arrives. The class size was just the right amount of people and the environment was very laid back.
Saturday Series
Each class was purposeful and went into the right amount of depth needed to make us feel knowledgeable and prepared when it comes to how to stay comfortable when labor begins, breastfeeding, and newborn care basics. We left the class and kept discussing the different topics we learned and topics we want to explore further. Lastly, we now have a great resource to call upon in Gold Coast Doulas! 100% would recommend these classes to others!
Saturday Series
We absolutely loved the Saturday Series! All three classes made Kevin and I feel even more comfortable with our labor/delivery decisions, what to expect at the hospital, how to feel comfortable with breastfeeding and the option to work with a lactation consultant at the hospital, at our pediatrician, and at home if we want. Finally, the newborn course helped us feel prepared and ready to meet our baby girl in 2 weeks. Thank you for such a great day and for the encouragement to advocate for our goals during labor/delivery, as well as practical lessons for breastfeeding and newborn survival!
Saturday Series
We enjoyed the specific positions where my spouse got to learn how he could make me more comfortable, and the hands on component was great!
Comfort Measures Class
My husband and I loved this class. Thanks for boosting our confidence. So many of our friends have quit because of various problems, and we really want to make this work. We left the class feeling more equipped than when we came!
Breastfeeding Class
This class is a must. Alyssa is a fantastic and friendly teacher who made everyone in the room feel heard and comfortable. She covers very useful topics about bringing home baby, and helped me clarify what items are essential, what’s simply not worth spending the money on, what doesn’t work, tips and tricks, and shared high value resources. My husband and I are glad we attended!!
Newborn Survival Class
Kristin was very approachable. I loved learning things my husband can do to support me and be a part of the birth process.
Comfort Mesures Class
Great class! I never knew there was so much to learn about breastfeeding! I feel much more confident about getting started breastfeeding after my baby arrives.
Breastfeeding Class
This class made myself and my husband feel more excited and relaxed about the birthing process. We had a lot of questions that were answered thoroughly and were enlightened on many things we didn’t even know to think about! Thank you, Kristin, for a wonderful class.
Comfort Mesures Class
My husband and I are first time parents, have read a lot of books, and have great support. We even took a birth class, but felt like we walked away with the most confidence after the newborn survival class. It was just so reassuring and validating.
Newborn Survival Class
My husband was very happy he came. He didn’t realize how involved he could be in this process....and he really wants to be involved in caring for our new baby boy!
Breastfeeding Class
We left feeling so much more prepared about day to day life with an infant. It helped to get validation and questions answered by an expert! My husband loved it too!
Newborn Survival Class
It was a very comfortable, engaging class where it was easy to ask questions and feel like it was personalized. I feel more confident and at ease with what to expect when going into labor.
Comfort Mesures Class
Thanks for the easy, practical information given in the class. I loved how Kelly made breastfeeding such a natural process and an extension of childbirth. She has given me confidence that my body DOES know what to do and so does my baby!
Breastfeeding Class
My husband and I learned several tips/tricks that we had never heard of before even after taking a hospital childbirth/child care class that was 10+ hours long. It very helpful! Alyssa was very easy to follow and kept the class entertaining and interesting. I would recommend to anyone!
Newborn Survival
My husband and I took Kelly's class while I was pregnant; our son is now 4 months old. Her class had such an impact on my thoughts towards breastfeeding. I knew I always wanted to do it but didn’t realize the struggle and sacrifice it can be at first. My husband shared with me a couple days after our son’s birth that when he first saw me breastfeed he started crying. He attended the class with me and he said it was just so awesome to witness our son and I doing something so natural.
Breastfeeding Class
Alyssa did a great job of making the group feel comfortable to discuss topics and questions in her newborn survival class. The length of the class was great, in that it was informative and concise!
Newborn Survival
I just wanted to let you know that you are making a huge impact on women (and men)! Breastfeeding no longer feels sacrificial at all for myself (I’m also a working mom). Again thank you so much for what you are doing! I always encourage my pregnant girlfriends to look into your classes!
Breastfeeding Class
We are so grateful for Alyssa. We attended one of her newborn classes, which was very well put together and informative.
Newborn Survival
I will definitely recommend this class. I have had friends who have nursed their children, but always wished they took a class before birth to give them advice. I feel like my partner and I have set ourselves up for breastfeeding success by taking this class, and even if things don't go according to plan, we know what resources to bring in if needed.
Breastfeeding Cllass
I recently had the pleasure of taking Alyssa’s Newborn Class and she is a life saver!! I had taken a few classes through our hospital that had good information but Alyssa was able to put everything in a real life setting. I highly recommend her and her services, you will not regret it!
Comfort Mesures
For first and non-first time parents, the information is helpful and important for parents to feel empowered to make their own choices/exercise their voices during delivery. Without the knowledge of available options, it is difficult to do that.
Newborn Survival
Really glad we debunked some of the info we've heard from our 60 year old moms. They have advice from the 90's & we love & respect them for helping, but we appreciated getting concrete answers based in more recent data.
Newborn Survival
My husband & I are expecting our first baby. As 33 year old professionals, we prefer to know what we're doing before we do it. This new chapter of unknown is exciting & nerve-wracking! So grateful a friend recommended this class. It was very practical -we took away valuable information about breastfeeding, caring for a new belly button, swaddling techniques, pace feeding, the monthly breakdown of milestones, growth & development, & especially the expectations for periods of time awake for a newborn. Great preparation for the little one. Common sense tips, and practical advice that will help us stay grounded. Huge shout out to Gold Coast Doulas for providing this! Excellent value! Joined from Wisconsin via Zoom!
Newborn Survival
Your class was educational and reassuring that we can get through this together."
Rebecca, Comfort Measures
I would recommend this class. I've heard many stories from women who tried to breastfeed for a little while or a long time but didn't succeed. This class gave me the knowledge to identify any issues that may come up for me and to know when to seek help.
Laura Braun, Breasfeeding Class
I would recommend this class - we both thought it was very helpful and enjoyable. It made us feel more confident in the process while also giving us other aspects we should think and discuss more. We learned a lot about what position options there were and how my partner can best support me. Learning about how the setting can be very personalized to set you up for success.
Kelsey Crawford, Comfort Mesures Class
For us it was a great starting point for communicating our wants and needs for the laboring and delivery process. It was great to have a guide for questions on comfortability with different topics.
Comfort Measures Class
Anyone who is a first-time mom and dad preparing for birth would find this course helpful. Overall it's just an overwhelming amount of information to take in and having this class to kind of get into the basics was helpful and also made it so I left having a little bit more of an idea of how the day you give birth goes.
Saturday Series
We enjoyed that Kelly wasn’t reading off slides and kept the classes very conversational. Everyone always says how hard of a start breastfeeding can be and we felt that this gave us both a realistic idea of things to expect but also much more confidence that we can figure it out. The reference material was really fantastic and Kelly was able to answer all our questions!
Saturday Series
Very engaging and interactive! I learned so much about medical and non medical pain management. I learned about ways to make my birthing experience more tailored to my own needs and wants.
Saturday Series
The Comfort Measures class helped calm our minds knowing all of the options we have and knowing that our doula will be there to suggest them. It was also nice to be able to practice some positions and touches to prepare my husband. We also truly appreciate Kristin being willing to hold the session privately rather than virtually.
